12 Monkeys

For years this one slipped through my appreciation for sci-fi and Terry Gilliam.  Finally I Netflix'd it and now I'm a believer.

12 Monkeys is a time-travel story.  And I've always been a sucker for time travel stories (and Madeleine Stowe).  Bruce Willis is... Bruce Willis (that's a good thing).  The plot twists are enjoyable and came as genuine surprises (for me at least).  The time travel paradoxes are fun.  I'll even give Brad Pitt a thumbs up for his crazy work.

Gilliam's future is very typically Gilliam-esque, and some of the scenes were very reminiscent of his previous films.  The protagonist's recurring dream was framed very similarly to Robin Williams' traumatic moment in The Fisher King.

I really enjoyed 12 Monkeys.
