More Masters of Horror

I had three waiting for me this last weekend and, frankly, they're wearing kind of thin. I feel like I'm watching "Tales from the Crypt" instead of the brainchildren of great horror directors given free reign.

"Fair-Haired Child" by William Malone was reasonably interesting. He needs to get a new schtick, though -- the jerky-fast-motion thing got old about 5 seconds after House on Haunted Hill. I have to admit, though -- it sure became a popular trend.

"Deer Woman" by (choke) John Landis was actually the (choke) best of the three. It didn't have a "cutsey" ending, but it did have some very funny lines and a kick-ass inside reference to American Werewolf in London. Don't get me wrong -- I think Landis is a great comedy director, and AWiL is a wonderful film (I have a Very Special Thing for Jenny Agutter, and she's never been more lovely), but I just don't see him as a horror director. And some of his historic choices have been... questionable.

"Sick Girl" by Lucky McKee was annoying, with the deadly cutsey ending. Who the fuck is Lucky McKee, anyway?

As per previous installments, the director profiles were very good.

Even John Landis'.
