John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns

I'm currently working my way through the Showtime Masters of Horror series on my Netflix list.

"Cigarette Burns" tells the story of an expert in obscure films (Norman Reedus) who is hired by a wealthy man (Udo Kier) to find an infamous feature rumored to drive the viewer insane.

Maybe it was Reedus' casting, but I felt inches away from re-watching The Ninth Gate. The conceit of an object d' art driving the viewer mad also drew obvious comparisons to Carpenter's own In the Mouth of Madness.

I enjoyed it more than Landis' "Family", but not as much as "Jenifer" and "Imprint".

I did enjoy the interview extra with Carpenter. Each of the episodes I've seen so far have been fascinating windows on the associated director's portfolio.
